Vytis Heavyweight Gorget

The lightweight was unavailable at time of purchase, so I decided to try the heavyweight. I was worried about bulk and range of motion, but the articulated design makes the loss of motion minimal. I'd say it's actually less loss of motion than the basic gorget I was using before. It was a little stiff and awkward out of the box, but after following the instructions and soaking it in hot/boiling water it is now custom fitted to my neck. I use this with the Vytis nape of neck protector and a full cuirass. Adding the nape of neck protector is an easy process. I find it is comfortable to wear. Some people don't like the feel of the foam on their skin. I usually wear a moisture-wicking hockey baselayer which has a cut-resistant collar, so this isn't an issue for me. I have worn it a few times with a regular baselayer and haven't found it an issue. I like the modularity of the Vytis approach, as you can also add clavicle and chest protection as part of their system.

This is a solid choice for gorget. The medium was a little tight out of the box but, as per the manual, soaked the ends in boiling water for a minute to custom fit it to my neck. Very small loss of mobility looking all the way down and to the extreme left/right. I don't see this as much of a disadvantage given the sleek fit and good articulation over the basic gorget I was using previously. I also appreciate VYTIS' modular approach to their gear. Got the nape protector to go with this and it integrates painlessly. This doesn't come with the bit of clavicle protection my basic one did, but VYTIS has a clavicle protector to expand this system. This is a solid buy.

Order was shipped and delivered very quickly. Gorget was a bit tight but was able to heat it up and loosen the fit so now is a perfect size. Great coverage and protection while still allowing decent movement and mobility. Customer support was super friendly and quick to respond to any questions.
